Origin and Concept
This 1970 Jensen Interceptor Mk. II was acquired in 2010 by a customer of Butch’s Custom Fabrication. Upon delivery to Butch’s shop in Montana, the Jensen was completely disassembled for restoration and modification. The car had spent its life in Arizona and inspection revealed it was virtually rust-free, which is rare for Jensen Interceptors which are known to be vulnerable to “tin worms”.
The creation of the Jensen Interceptor resto-modification was commissioned by a physician who traveled widely in the Rocky Mountain region to work as a trauma surgeon. It was his desire to create and drive a vintage appearing sport touring vehicle that performed like a modern Grand Touring car. Reliability was also a critical component in the design concept.
Because the Jensen Interceptor was originally factory equipped with a Chrysler drivetrain, it was determined that in order to keep this Interceptor “spiritually” pure, a late model Gen. III Chrysler Hemi engine and transmission would be installed. This drivetrain choice would be accompanied by modern, high-performance suspension and braking components, and state-of-the-art electrical components would eliminate the “Prince of Darkness” haunting the stock Lucas equipment.
Unfortunately, the gentleman who ordered the construction of this car received a cancer diagnosis, and after an extensive therapeutic intervention, passed away prior to completion of his dream project. The car was acquired by the builder’s shop, prior to the customer’s passing, for completion in tribute to the creator’s vision. The car carries a clear Montana title.
The Hemiceptor is essentially a new car. Almost every component, with the exception of the bare body itself, is new or meticulously remanufactured.
After more than nine years of work, this car is now nearing completion.
